Gorgeously Carved Breton Style French Oak Double

This lovely bed has delightfully detailed carving throughout. The foot end has a triptych of rural imagery which has a charming and evocative feel to it, portraying the life and culture in Brittany. The panels have a lovely geometric carving surrounding the edges. A lovely bed which is sturdy, practical and beautiful. The bottom of the foot end has gorgeous foliate carving and a lovely crest which sits centrally. This is also carried through onto the siderails. The carvings on traditional Breton beds are not naive in the sense of lacking skill, rather their distinctive style is a result of regional folk craftsmanship. This style prioritises storytelling and family identity. We have lovingly restored this bed, repairing where needed, cleaning and generally restoring to be a beautiful and practical heirloom piece. Truly a very handsome bed indeed, which we have cleaned and restored to ensure a solid and sturdy bed. This bed happily takes a UK modern double mattress 4’6” x 6’3” / 135cm x 190cm. Whole bed has been checked and sympathetically restored to ensure solid, sturdy construction and good assembly. Price includes wood slats (sorry not mattress). As an alternative to the wood slats we can supply mini box bases for superior mattress support and to raise the get into bed height. The bed is photographed on slats with one of our Bordeaux mattresses. We can also supply hand-made mattresses in all comfort choices.
